GUIDED TOUR OF IXIMCHÉ - OCTOBER 2025
Iximché served as the capital of the Kaqchikel Maya kingdom from around 1470 until its abandonment in 1524. Founded on a defensible ridge surrounded by ravines, it was a powerful political and ceremonial center featuring pyramids, temples, palaces, and ballcourts. Iximché is historically significant as the last independent Mayan capital to resist Spanish conquest and became the first capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala under Spanish rule before it was destroyed. Today, the ruins are a national monument, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and remain sacred to the Maya people, with ongoing rituals and ceremonies. Dan Terzuola, our INGUAT guide gave a “5 Star” tour of the site sharing his vast knowledge of Mayan cosmology and historical events.
